EMC TechAcademy Hit Town

Over 600 IT professionals in attendance at EMC TechAcademy 2009 witnessed the remarkable annual forum on 12th June, 2009 at the JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong. This year’s theme is all about solutions on IT Efficiency subjects from 3 perspectives: Cost, Operational and Service Levels.

Set off by a signature march-in opening ceremony, the full-packed program day featured 16 Partners’ Solution Showcase Demonstrations, Three Industrial IT Efficiency Solutions Tracks in 21 breakout sessions and a whole lot more. The day’s climax was where an assembly of IT veterans took the stage for a Panel Session on the topic of: “How to Enhance Hong Kong’s IT Competitiveness towards Globalization?”

	*Mr. K T Yung,* General Manager, IT Industry Development Division, Hong Kong Productivity Council Mr. Yung is currently the General Manager of IT Industry Development Division of the Hong Kong Productivity Council. His major responsibility is to promote the development of Hong Kong software industry. He is the Council Member of the Hong Kong Information Technology Federation and the Vice President of the Hong Kong & Mainland S/W Industry Corp Assn. He is also the Past President of the Hong Kong Computer Society, Past Chairman of the Information Technology (IT) Management Club of the Hong Kong Management Association. Mr. Yung is an active member of the various organizations such as Advisory Committee of HK Information Technology Industry Council under Federation of Hong Kong Industries (FHKI), an Honorary IT Advisor of the Monte Jade Science & Technology Association of HK Ltd, PMI Advisory Committee under Project Management Institute Hong Kong Chapter and Committing to projects of the Office of Government Chief Information Officer, Hong Kong Government. He was being elected as a member of the IT Sub-sector of the 1st, 2nd and the 3rd Election Committee. He was also the Chairman of the organizing committee of National Olympiad Informatic 1997 held in Hong Kong and the President of SEARCC in 1994. Mr. Yung is a Distinguished Fellow of the Hong Kong Computer Society and attained a BSc. and MBA from CUHK and had been with the IT industry for over 30 years.

	Prof. David Cheung, Department Head of Computer Science, The University of Hong Kong. Prof. Cheung conducts research in database, data mining and e-commerce technologies. His publications have appeared in top conferences such as SIGMOD, VLDB, ICDE and leading journals such as ACM TODS, ACM TKDD and IEEE TKDE. He was the recipient of the HKU Outstanding Researcher Award. Most recently, he received the Distinguished Contribution Award in the 2009 Pacific-Asia Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery Conference. Concerning applied research, he has received more than HK$60M grants from the Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Commission. Professor Cheung and his team have developed open-source ebXML gateway, which has been used by developers from more than 80 countries. The open-source product has received awards in various prominent competitions, including the Hong Kong 2004 IT Excellence Awards, the 2004 Asia-Pacific ICT Awards, and the 2005 Linux Business Awards.

	*Mr. Duncan Chiu,* Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Far East Holdings International Mr. Chiu is currently Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Far East Holdings International Limited (Stock Code: 0036), a publicly-listed company in the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. He is also Directors of Far East Hotels & Entertainment Limited (Stock Code: 0037) and ChinaSoft International Limited (Stock Code: 354). Educated in Hong Kong and the United States, Mr. Chiu holds a in Business Administration from Pepperdine University of California, United States. He joined his family-owned Far East Group in 1997 overseeing Chinese operations. Far East Group has wide-spread investments globally, which include real estates, hotels, entertainment business, industrial plants and crude oil trading businesses. The Group now controls six publicly-listed companies in HK, UK and Japan. Through the years he spent in China, Mr. Chiu established strong relationships inside the PRC and built a strong network in the technology sector. He is also very active in the public services sector and now serves as Chairman of Hong Kong & Mainland Software Industry Cooperation Association, he is also Deputy Chairman of The Chamber of Hong Kong Listed Companies, Vice President of Innovation & Technology Association, Vice Chairman of Henan Provincial Youth Federation, Member of The Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, Shanghai Committee, Committee Member of All-China Youth Federation, Director of Hong Kong United Youth IT Association, Committee Member of Jiangsu Provincial Youth Federation and Directors three Ju Ching Chu Secondary Schools (Kwai Chung, Yuen Long and Tuen Mun).

	*Mr. Michael K M Leung*, Senior Vice President & Chief Information Officer, China Construction Bank (Asia) Michael Leung was appointed Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer of Bank of America (Asia) in March 2000. In this capacity, he manages the Bank's IT function in its entirety, including business systems design and development, project management, as well as production systems support and data center operations. In addition, Mr. Leung is also in charge of operations planning, product services and corporate administration departments of the Bank. Mr. Leung has over 28 years' local and international experience in information technology, specializing in the banking and finance industry. Mr. Leung holds a Master degree in Engineering from The Netherlands Universities Foundation and a Bachelor of Science from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. In his over two decades of professional career, Mr. Leung has attended executive training at London Business School, MIT Sloan School of Management, an honor diploma from Graduate School of Retail Bank Management of University of Virginia, among others. He is a Fellow of the Hong Kong Computer Society and member of several professional bodies, and a seasoned speaker on a range of business and IT topics in regional conferences.

	*Dr. Samson Tam JP*, The Legislative Council, Information Technology Dr. Samson Tam is a Legislative Councilor from the functional constituency of Information Technology and he is the founder of Group Sense (International) Ltd. He is now a member of Digital 21 Strategy Advisory Committee, the Small and Medium Enterprises Committee and Deputy Chairman of the Hong Kong Productivity Council. He is also the Chairman of the TechMatrix Research Centre, which is a local technology think tank.
